Freedom

freedom_flightWhat began as a test photo shoot to check my wireless Nikon flash units, ended up into quite a nice photo.

This photo was captured in the front lawn of my assistants home. I was testing my wireless flash unit, the SB800, so I figured I would get creative with the test. I had my assistant jump from the planter ledge in the front yard (just under the flag mounted on the edge of the roof).

With another assistant directly in front of the "flying" kid, I fired off my camera, triggering the SB 800 directly in front of the "flying" kid. After several shots later, I figured I and concluded the test with success.

It wasn't until later that evening when I downloaded the images that I began manipulating the images in photoshop. Using the original "flying" image, I clipped the assistant and the flag out of the photo and added the sky to the background (since there was actually the roof of a home behind him). I convereted the image to black and white and then using Nik, I used the cross process feature to add drama to the sky.

What began as a test of my camera equipment, has resulted in an image that was rather creative in nature. It was submitted to the AAron Brothers "Show Us Your America" art competition where it placed in the top 10 (out of several thousand entries). It has since been used as the cover of an invitation and is being submitted to Boys Life magazine for their 100th Year Anniversary Edition.
