I purchased two PocketWizard Plus II's and have tried to connect them to my Alien Bee's strobes. I have on PW connected to my camera hot shoe and the other is connected using a 1/8 miniplug I purchased at Radio Shack. The problem is that when I use the camera, it does not fire the PW. It worked yesterday when I received the PW's. But they stopped working today? 

 

Anybody have a clue why it would do that? thnx.

Hi Gilbert and welcome to the forum.

Well, let's see if I can help you out here. Looks like you are having some sort of connection issues. I know these might be silly questions, but are the PW's powered on? Are they set to the same channel? Are they connected securely? Meaning the PW on the camera hot shoe is secured and in place properly and the mini plug is secured?

 

Also, make certain that you are using a mono 1/8 mini plug because using a stereo one can cause your PW's not to fire since the stereo plugs have special wiring inside to help reduce noise amongst other things. These can cause your PW not to fire.

Wow, that was a fast reply. Thanks!

 

I did check my PW's and they are powered and both set to the same channel. Everything is secure. But, I am using the stereo mini plug. I will go back to Radio Shack and purchase the mono plug and see if that makes a difference. I will post a follow-up when I get the new one.
